OACPS Secretary-General Congratulates Incoming Director-General of the World Trade Organization on her historic appointment

Brussels, 17 February 2021/OACPS: The Secretary-General (SG) of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), H.E. Mr Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, extended his congratulations to the OACPS candidate, H.E. Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on her appointment, on 15 February 2021, as Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

OACPS awards grants to eight consortia to enhance Research and Innovation capacities

Brussels, 09 February 2021/OACPS: The ACP Innovation Fund is a key instrument of the Research and Innovation (R&I) Programme implemented by the Secretariat of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) to unlock innovation potential in its Member States and accelerate sustainable development.

The Programme is funded by the European Union (EU) through the 11th European Development Fund (EDF).

Selected from the ACP Innovation Fund’s 2019 Call for Proposals, the grant beneficiaries (see table below) will spearhead a wide range of projects to advance solutions in several areas:

Decisions and Resolutions of the 111th Session of the OACPS Council of Ministers

Brussels, 02 February 2021/OACPS: The hybrid 111th Session of the Council of Ministers of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States was held on 14, 15 and 17 December 2020. The meeting was chaired by H.E. Prof. Palamagamba John Aidan Mwaluko Kabudi, Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Co-operation, United Republic of Tanzania, and President-in-Office of the OACPS Council of Ministers.

Tanzania hands over the leadership of the OACPS Committee of Ambassadors to Samoa

Brussels, 01 February 2021/OACPS: As of 1  February 2021, H.E. Dr. Paolelei Luteru, Ambassador of the Independent State of Samoa, will chair the Committee of Ambassadors (CoA) of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) until the end of Samoa’s six-month term in July 2021.  Ambassador Luteru took over from the outgoing chair, Ambassador Jestas Nyamanga of the United Republic of Tanzania during the hybrid Meeting of the Incoming and Outgoing Bureaux of the Committee of Ambassadors of the OACPS on 28 January 2021.  

Statement of the Secretary-General of the OACPS on the political and security situation in the Central African Region

Brussels, 01 February 2021/OACPS: On behalf of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), the Secretary-General, H.E. Mr Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, welcomed the mini-Summit of leaders of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), which took place in Luanda, Republic of Angola on 29 January 2021, to discuss the political and security situation in the Central African Republic (CAR).

New OACPS-EU initiative signed to facilitate access to finance through digital technology for Member States of the OACPS

Brussels, 29 January 2021/OACPS: The Organization of Africa, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) together with the European Commission (EC), has signed a new initiative of €14.5 million with the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) to unlock the potential of digital finance to benefit more than 600,000 women, youth and entrepreneurs across the Member States of the OACPS.

Smallholder farmers in Côte d’Ivoire benefit from investments by ABC Fund

Brussels, 28 January 2021/OACPS: The Agri-Business Capital (ABC Fund) has provided loans to two Ivorian cooperatives, ahead of the 2020/21 cocoa production season. The Fund provided a first-time loan of €800,000 to the Enterprise Cooperative Kimbe (‘Ecookim’) and a follow-up loan to Socak Katana. The financing is crucial to ensure that smallholder farmers do not lose the valuable benefits of being part of a cooperative.
