PRESS RELEASE: Targeted, effective cooperation between the EIB and the Finance Ministry in the fight against poverty in the ACP countries

Luxembourg, 5 July 2011 - The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the European Investment Bank are joining forces on a third technical assistance operation in support of microfinance. Luc Frieden, Finance Minister, and Philippe Maystadt, EIB President, today signed a new cooperation agreement that will bring together the expertise, networks and resources of the EIB and the Finance Ministry in order to develop microfinance and the private sector in the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries.

Dr. Chambas expressed his gratitude to the Crans Montana Forum Foundation for such an honour, especially when he was in a distinguished company of those that received the honour this year and those before them.

PRESS RELEASE: ACP Secretariat invited journalists to cover ACP and EU meetings

ACP Press Release – 6 June 2011: The ACP Secretariat last week invited 10 ACP journalists to cover the 93rd Session of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Council of Ministers and the 36th Session of the ACP-EU Council of Ministers.
The journalists represented the six regions of the ACP Group. Speaking to the journalists, Secretary-General Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas said it was the first time that the Secretariat had invited ACP journalists and called on them to support the efforts of the Secretariat to enhance its visibility.

ACP Press Release – 1 June 2011: The 36th Session of the ACP-EU Council of Ministers ended with both parties renewed their commitment to fight against the eradication of poverty in the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) states. Brief Statement for the President of Council to the Press after the 93rd Session of the ACP Council of Ministers 28 May 2011

Ladies and gentlemen, it gives me great pleasure to say a few words following the successful conclusion of the 93rd Session of the ACP Council of Ministers.

Before I start may I express my profound gratitude to all of you, the ACP journalists, who are here to cover the ACP Council of Ministers, I do hope that you would give the ACP Group the much needed visibility it needs.
As you are aware, the ACP Ministers have spent the past two days discussing very significant trade, political and social issues within the ACP Group and its partner, the EU, and other stakeholders.
