Statement by the Secretary General at the 2nd beneficiaries' meeting of the ACP Cultures+ Programme, 10 February 2015, Brussels

First of all, allow me to thank you for giving me this opportunity to make a few remarks at this meeting for beneficiaries of the ACP Cultures+ programme. This programme has indeed come a long way, and it is gratifying to note the huge interest it has generated not only among artists, but among other development actors as well.

Permit me to begin by expressing how deeply honoured I am for the privilege of addressing this noble and august 100th Session of the ACP Council of Ministers. I warmly welcome you all to ACP House, which is, indeed, your House!

Let me also extend a warm hand of welcome to our Special Guest, H. E. Mr. Li Yong, Director-General of UNIDO who has graciously agreed to address Council on the topic Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development.

Mr. Chairman; Distinguished Participants; Ladies and Gentlemen.

It is a pleasure to have been invited to participate in this Conference on Ebola and Global Governance, particularly at this time as the international community battles the containment of the recent Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in West Africa.

It is a pleasure for me to welcome you all to Brussels, Belgium, and to ACP House, your House, for this High-Level Symposium on the ACP Private Sector Development Strategy; A PSD Strategy that will enable the ACP Group to facilitate the growth of a vibrant private sector and assisit it play a major role as an engine of sustainable economic growth and poverty reduction in ACP member states.

Statement by the Secretary General at the ACP Symposium on the Ebola Outbreak in West Africa, 17 October 2014, Brussels

Mr. Chairman, Your Excellencies, Distinguished Participants, Ladies and Gentlemen,
 
I welcome you all, to this Symposium on the Ebola Outbreak in West Africa, in which we will reflect on the current situation in the affected countries, as well as on the interventions by the international community to contain this epidemic. As described by Dr. Margaret Chan, Director-General of WHO, this Ebola outbreak in West Africa is “unquestionably the most severe acute public emergency of modern times”.
