109th Session of the ACP Council of Ministers and 44th Session of the ACP-EC Council of Ministers

Brussels 20 May 2019/ACP: The 109th Session of the ACP Council of Ministers is scheduled to begin tomorrow 21 May 2019 in Brussels, bringing together officials from 79 ACP countries to take decisions on key development issues, as well as institutional matters involving the future of the organisation.
 
Chaired by His Excellency Mr. Tjekero Tweya, Minister of Industrialisation, Trade and SME Development of the Republic of Namibia, the 109th session will be the first ACP ministerial meeting of the year.
 
Topics scheduled for discussion include Sustainable Economic Development and Trade matters, Financial Tax matters, Gender Violence-Spotlight Initiative amongst many others.
 
As negotiations for a new partnership with the European Union are well advanced, the ACP Chief Negotiator Prof. Robert Dussey Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Integration of Togo will present a report on the state of play of the negotiations for Council's approval and guidance on the way forward.
 
The ACP Secretary General Dr. Patrick Gomes and the President of the ACP Council of Ministers His Excellency Mr. Tjekero Tweya will also hold a media briefing on the 22 May 2019 to conclude the meeting.
 
On 23-24 May 2019 ACP Ministers will meet with their European counterparts for the 44th Session of the ACP-EC Council of Ministers. Several important topics are expected to be discussed including the ACP-EU post-Cotonou negotiations and the state of play of the Brexit process.
