Brussels, 28 November 2011/ ACP Newsdesk: ACP Secretary General Dr Mohamed Ibn Chambas met with the President of Côte d’Ivoire H.E Alassane Dramane Ouattara, during the Head of State’s visit to Paris and Brussels last week.

The Secretary General took the opportunity to commend President Ouattara for his efforts made so far to stabilize the security situation in the country after recent incidents of politically-motivated violence, and to promote reconciliation amongst Ivorians in a post-conflict period.

The two leaders discussed the “critical” part Côte d’Ivoire can play in deepening the process of regional integration. The Secretary General stated that under President Ouattara’s leadership, Côte d’Ivoire can once again play its “traditional role” as a hospitable country to all, and become a model of regional integration in the ECOWAS region. He also encouraged the President in his efforts to re-launch the country’s economy.

At the request of the ACP secretary General, the President of Cote d’Ivoire has agreed to host a key conference on cocoa in the first semsester of 2012  in collaboration with the ACP Secretariat and the International Cocoa Council. –End-
