ACP PRESS RELEASE – July 28 2011: The Republic of Uganda has taken over the Presidency of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group from the Federation Republic of Nigeria, which held the office for the past six months (February-July 2011).

Outgoing Chair of the ACP Committee of Ambassadors and Ambassador of Nigeria, H.E Mr. Usman Baraya (centre) on Thursday (28 July 2011) hand-over chairmanship to the In-Coming Chairman, H.E. Mr. Stephen T.K. Katenta-Apuli, and Ambassador of Uganda.

Mr. Baraya in congratulating his successor pledged his support to the new chairman and his team at the same time thanked members of the Outgoing ACP Committee of Ambassadors Bureau for their selfless support and underscored that they (regional coordinators) had done their regions proud in the past six months.

In response, Mr Katenta-Apuli commended the outgoing chair for his commitment and the noble leadership he had shown to the ACP Group and promised to carry on from where he left.

Uganda takes over the Presidency (August 2011 - January 2012), representing the East African region replacing Nigeria, which represented West Africa.

The ACP Presidency is rotated every six months amongst the six ACP regions.
