Brussels, 12 September 2021/OACPS: His Excellency Mr Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, Secretary-General of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), joins the international community, on behalf of the OACPS, to celebrate the 12 September, the International Day of South-South Cooperation, which this year is celebrated under the theme of, "Solidarity in favor of a more inclusive, resilient and sustainable future".

Secretary-General Chikoti stresses that today, more than ever, the world needs more solidarity, unity and collective commitment to tackle the current health crisis and other global challenges such as climate change, growing inequalities and rising poverty levels.

It is in this context that the Secretary-General is pleased to note that the OACPS – with a past and a future rooted in solidarity and both South-South and North-South Cooperation – has, since September 2020, opened the OACPS Information Center on South-South and Triangular Cooperation. This represents a new instrument for coordinating and promoting south-south and triangular cooperation, through the management and sharing of knowledge, experiences, good practices and ''local solutions'' of innovative development.

The last OACPS Symposium on South-South and Triangular Cooperation, organized on 3 September 2021 in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, made recommendations for extended partnerships to strengthen the activities of the new OACPS Center for South-South Cooperation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Secretary-General Chikoti reaffirms his willingness and commitment to work in partnership with the United Nations and other stakeholders to implement the recommendations of the Symposium, the decisions of the Second High-Level Conference on South-South Cooperation (BAPA + 40), as well as the United Nations System-wide Strategy on South-South and Triangular Cooperation for Sustainable Development, 2020-2024.
