Statement by the SG OACPS on the General Elections in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago

Brussels, 19 August 2020/OACPS: On behalf of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), the Secretary-General, H.E. Mr. Georges Rebelo Pinto CHIKOTI, congratulates the Government and people of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on the successful and well-conducted general elections held on 10 August 2020. He particularly congratulates the candidates and the people of the twin island nation, who, through this election, have once again demonstrated their commitment to democracy, peace and stability.

The Secretary-General congratulates the incumbent, H.E. Dr. Keith Rowley, on his party’s victory at the polls and on his re-election for a second term as Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

The Secretary-General extends his best wishes to the Prime Minister and his new cabinet and reiterates the commitment and support of the OACPS to the people of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in their efforts to strengthen democratic processes in their pursuit to achieve inclusive sustainable development.
