Kick-off meeting of the Policy Support Facility service in Lesotho to develop a national Research and Innovation policy

Brussels, 23 June 2021, OACPS: Lesotho is the first country to benefit from the Policy Support Facility (PSF), an innovative mechanism set up by the Secretariat of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) to enhance the quality and efficiency of R&I policy systems.

Brussels, 23 June 2021/OACPS: His Excellency Hon. Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces, in his capacity as President-in-Office of the Summit of OACPS Heads of State and Government, met with H.E. Mr Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, Secretary-General of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) and the Committee of Ambassadors of the OACPS at the Headquarters of the organisation in Brussels, Belgium on 22 June 2021.

OACPS Committee of Ambassadors Welcomes New Colleague from Gabon

Brussels, 23 June 2021/OACPS: H.E. Mr Serge Thierry Mickoto Chavagne, new ambassador of the Republic of Gabon in Belgium was introduced on 16 June 2021 at the 939th Session of the Committee of Ambassadors of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS).

H.E.  Serge Thierry Mickoto Chavagne has had a distinguished career in banking and finance, having worked at the head of the Gabonese Strategic Investment Fund (FGIS), with the international firm of Ernst & Young, and with the Paribas group which later became BGFI Bank.

Statement by the Secretary-General of the OACPS on the passing of the former President of the Republic of Zambia, H.E. Dr Kenneth Kaunda

Brussels, 19 June 2021/OACPS: It is with deep sadness that the Secretary-General of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), H.E. Mr Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, learned of the death of H.E. Dr Kenneth Kaunda, former President of the Republic of Zambia on 17 July 2021.

OACPS to host virtual seminar on the EU’s list of non-cooperative jurisdictions for tax purposes

Brussels, 18 June 2021/OACPS: The Organisation of African, Caribbean andPacific States will host a virtual seminar from 21 to 24 June 2021 to facilitate a dialogue between its Member States and international partners on the list of non-cooperative jurisdictions for tax purposes and that of high-risk third countries on combating money laundering and terrorist financing (AML/CFT) of the European Union (EU).

President Uhuru Kenyatta to visit OACPS Secretary-General to discuss the future of the OACPS and the implementation of the Post-Cotonou Agreement

Brussels, 18 June 2021/OACPS: Kenyan President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, who is also the President-in-Office of the Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), will, in the course of a three-day Presidential mission to Brussels, visit the Secretariat of the OACPS to meet with Secretary-General, H.E. Mr Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, and the OACPS Committee of Ambassadors on 22 June 2021.

FISH4ACP to boost artisanal mahi-mahi fishing in the Dominican Republic

     Santo Domingo, 18 June 2021: FISH4ACP today launched a global initiative to promote sustainable fisheries and aquaculture value chains in the Caribbean island of the Dominican Republic. The Programme will focus on improving mahi-mahi fishing, aiming to ensure that economic growth goes hand-in-hand with environmental sustainability and social inclusiveness.

OACPS' environmental programmes featured from 15-16 June during the European Development Days

Brussels, 07 June 2021/OACPS: The Programmes of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) dedicated to the protection and management of terrestrial and marine bio-diversity within the Members of the OACPS will be on display during the 14th edition of the European Development Days (EDDs) from 15 to 16 June 2021.

Brussels, 8 June 2021/OACPS: On behalf of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), the Secretary-General, H.E. Mr. Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, joins the global community of our Blue Planet in marking this year's World Oceans Day. On this Day, we are invited not just to recognise the importance of our oceans but also to raise awareness about the impacts of human actions on the oceans and to generate bold, ambitious action to improve ocean governance. It is also a day to celebrate the Ocean that nurtures, nourishes, and sustains us.
