PRESS RELEASE: Statement by the Secretary General following the agreement between the Government of Mali and the Touareg rebel groups

Brussels, 24 June 2013/ ACP Press Release: The Secretary-General of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP Group), Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni, was very pleased to endorse the agreement concluded in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) on 18 June 2013, between the Government of the Republic of Mali and the Tuareg rebel groups represented by the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) and High Council for the Azawad (HCA).
 

Mali - a lesson in “vigilance”, says JPA co-chair

Brussels, 19 June 2013/ ACP: Co-President of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (JPA) Hon. Joyce Laboso has urged ACP members against “taking democracy for granted,” while calling for continued peace talks in Mali following a ceasefire agreement signed between the government and armed groups on Tuesday. 
 

Kenyan lawmaker speaks out on “tragic” abuse of ACP natural resources

Brussels, 17 June 2013/ ACP: Despite the world’s fixation with the abundant natural resources found in African, Caribbean and Pacific countries, the Co-Chair of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (JPA), Hon. Joyce Laboso warned of devastating effects to communities on the ground if the focus stays only on revenues and not lives. 

 

PRESS RELEASE: New ACP flag and anthem unveiled

Brussels, 17 June 2013/ ACP Press Release: The ACP Group unveiled a new flag and anthem today at the opening ceremony of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly, to represent the solidarity and shared vision of its 79 member states. It is the first time ever for the Group to feature such symbols of common identity since its foundation in 1975.

PRELIMINARY DECLARATION: ACP Observation Mission to the Legislative, Senatorial and Municipal Elections in Equatorial Guinea on 26 May 2013

1.      At the invitation of the Government of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, a short-term Election Observation Mission of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) was dispatched to Malabo from 23 to 28 May 2013 to monitor the legislative, senatorial and municipal elections held in  that country on 26 May 2013.

 

EPA trade talks to get fresh political edge

Brussels, 10 June 2013/ ACP: Trade negotiations between the European bloc and the some ACP members may move closer to a resolution now, with plans for a political panel to tackle the longstanding deadlock in talks.
