ACP-EU Culture Programme launched during 5th ACP Ministers of Culture Meeting in Niger

Niamey, 18 October 2019: The African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States, in partnership with the European Commission (EC), launched a new Programme to support the cultural sector, ACP-EU Culture.

Themed, "Towards a sustainable cultural industry", the programme was officially launched and presented by H.E. Léonard-Emile Ognimba, Deputy Secretary-General of the ACP Group, at the 5th meeting of ACP Ministers of Culture, which was held in in Niamey, Niger from 19 - 20 October 2019.

CULTURE AND SOUTH-SOUTH COOPERATION

"Strengthening and diversifying partnerships for ACP cultures" was the theme of the 5th Meeting of Ministers of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) held on Saturday 19-20 October 2019 at the Palais des Congrès in Niamey. The opening of the meeting was chaired by the President of  Niger H.E Mr. Issoufou Mahamadou.
 

World Food Day 2019

Brussels, 16 October 2019/ACP/FAO: The ACP Secretariat is joining today with the FAO to observe the World Food Day 2019 with the aim to step up actions to end hunger and malnutrition in all its forms possible by 2030.
 

EU provides extra €9 million to support FAO's work promoting nature-friendly agricultural practices in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific

Rome, 14 October 2019/ACP/EU/FAO: European Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, Neven Mimica, and Director-General of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, Qu Dongyu, today signed a new agreement which will see the EU provide an additional €9 million to support the UN agency's work in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific.
 
In particular, the funding will boost the efforts of countries in the targeted regions to bring about sustainable changes in agricultural policies and practices to conserve and sustainably use biodiversity and natural resources.

Brussels, 11 October 2019/ ACP: The Secretary General of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States on behalf of the ACP Group of States and the Secretariat, proudly salutes this great achievement of our dearly admired and courageous, Honourable Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia for the outstanding contribution he has made to the cause of peace, freedom and justice for the people of Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan and South Sudan.

Fresh EUR 50 million boost for research and innovation in the ACP countries

Science, technology and innovation (STI) are increasingly recognised as key drivers of sustainable and inclusive development across the world. Moreover, STI are vital to help achieve the globally agreed Sustainable Development Goals and provide solutions to pressing societal and economic challenges.

It is against this shared understanding that the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States  and the European Union (EU) have agreed to launch the ACP Innovation Fund, a substantial effort to boost and optimise STI capacities in the countries concerned.

New Africa-Caribbean-Pacific/European Union Partnership: Chief negotiators agree on economic priorities for future agreement

New York, 28 September 2019/ACP/EU: Meeting in New York today in the margins of the United Nations General Assembly, the chief negotiators Commissioner Mimica and Togolese Minister Robert Dussey further specified the economic framework of future relations between African, Caribbean and Pacific countries with the European Union after 2020.
 

ACP Countries Leading by Example: Supporting 1.5 to Stay Alive!

New York, 26 September 2019/ACP/: States across Africa, the Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) remain deeply committed to urgent and effective climate action.  At the joint side event co-organised by the ACP Group, AOSIS and the European Commission (EC) on the margins of the United National General Assembly today, the organizations highlighted the need for urgency to address the “climate emergency. ”
