ACP statement to the G20 on eradicating Illegal Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing

Brussels 28 June 2019/ACP: Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing in ACP coastal countries remains one of the greatest threats to marine ecosystems, dependent communities and the society as a whole. It undermines efforts to conserve and sustainably manage fish stocks, destroys the food security of affected coastal countries and harms their economic interests.

A delegation from the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States led by Henrique Banze, Assistant Secretary General of the Macroeconomics, Development finance and Intra-ACP Programming  was in Paramaribo, Suriname from 28 to 30 May to carry out the last in the series of seminars with the National and Regional Authorising Officers across the six ACP regions.

ACP Committee of Ambassadors welcomes its newest addition, the Ambassador of the Republic of Zambia

Brussels 21 June 2019/ACP: H.E. Professor Esther Munalula Nkandu, Zambia’s Ambassador to Benelux and the EU was presented on 20 June 2019 to the Committee of Ambassadors of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States at their 921st Meeting at the ACP House in Brussels.

Brussels 20 June 2019/ACP: Today, on the occasion of World Refugees Day, the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States joins the international community in recognizing the plight of refugees worldwide who are forced to flee their homes due to war, conflict and persecution to seek a better life for themselves and their families. 
 

Ghana to help Guyana’s energy sector – An Example of South-South Cooperation

Brussels 20 June 2019/ ACP: Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo has agreed that his country would help Guyana’s energy sector, Director-General of the Ministry of the Presidency, Joseph Harmon said.

Briefing the media after Akufo Addo was conferred with Guyana’s national award, the Order of Excellence by President David Granger, Harmon said the technical assistance cooperation would be provided free of cost. “This is very important to us because what they did was to commit to pay the salaries, the transportation and everything to get the people here and all that we will need to do is to find accommodation for them,” he said.

At this year’s edition of the European Development Days, the ACP Secretariat will participate and organize several activities during the two-day event at the ACP Lounge. 
 
The theme for the ACP Group this Year is “African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States - Stronger together / South-South and triangular cooperation to achieve sustainable development, reduce inequality and vulnerability due to climate change”.
 
 

Statement by the ACP Secretary General on the Situation in Sudan

Brussels 12 June 2019/ACP: On behalf of the African, Carribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) and the ACP Secretariat, the Secretary General, Dr. Patrick Gomes, expresses his deep concern about the violence in Sudan that has led to loss of lives. He recalls the need for the parties to take responsability for the safety and security of the citizens of Sudan.

The Secretary General urges all parties to refrain from any further action that could exacerbate the situation. He calls on them to pursue peaceful dialogue that provides an environment that meets the aspirations of the people of Sudan.
