PRESS RELEASE: ACP queries European bid to abolish sugar quotas

ACP PRESS RELEASE, 20 September 2011: The ACP Sugar Group has recently been made aware through media reports of an “impact study” made by and for the European Commission.  This study refers to proposals for changes in the European sugar regime. Though Commission consultations appear to be on-going, the press presents these proposals as those the Commission favours.

It is hoped that this is not accurate as some of the key assumptions and results are more than questionable.

Longest-serving ACP ambassador bids farewell as Dean

Brussels, 19 September 2011: ACP Ambassadors paid tribute to their peer from Djibouti, H.E Mr. Mohamed Moussa Chehem, who concluded a distinguished decade-long term as Dean of ACP Ambassadors and the Diplomatic Corps of the Arab League last Thursday.

PRESS RELEASE: Panel to tackle key issues in mineral resource management

ACP PRESS RELEASE - 12 September 2011: Experts and Ambassadors will gather at the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP Group) headquarters in Brussels this Friday, 16 September, to discuss critical topics in managing the exploitation of mineral resources in the ACP region.

 The one-day strategic seminar, titled “Stakes, challenges and perspectives on mineral resources management in ACP countries”, is hosted by the ACP Group, as part of an ongoing series of meetings focused on sustainable development for its member states.

First South Sudanese delegation to visit ACP House

Brussels, 12 September 2011: Twelve diplomats from the Republic of South Sudan were welcomed at the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP Group) House in Brussels last week.

This is the first delegation from South Sudan, soon to be the newest member of the ACP Group since the nation gained independence in July 2011.

It’s a great pleasure for me to once again attend this meeting. I wish to express my profound gratitude for the opportunity to address you.  I have taken it as a special task during my term of office to strengthen the link between the ACP and its respective regions and sub-regions, thus the reason for the ACP Group seeking observer status at the Forum.

ACP PRESS RELEASE - 8 September, 2011: The African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP Group) has been invited to become an Observer member of the most dominant political grouping of states in the Pacific region.

Communique of the ACP Group on Food security situation in the Horn of Africa

The ACP Group of States is deeply concerned with the deteriorating food security situation in the Horn of Africa.

This crisis has already claimed thousands of lives and is threatening the lives of more than 10 million people with many more at risk of starving to death if relief does not reach them in good time.

The ACP Group expresses solidarity with, and profound sympathy to, the Governments and peoples of the affected countries in the Region at the tragic loss of lives, livelihoods and human suffering, especially of women, children and the elderly.
