On 28th September 2018 the ACP Group of States and the EU began negotiations for a successor Agreement to the Cotonou Agreement which comes to an end in February 2020. This section contains all you need to know about the negotiations.

NEWS: CARIFORUM and Carib-Export chart a way forward for EPA support

Georgetown GUYANA, 12 August 2012/ CARICOM: The Director General of the CARIFORUM Directorate, Mr Ivan Ogando Lora, and the Executive Director of the Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export), Ms Pamela Coke-Hamilton, headlined the closing session of the 2nd CARIFORUM-EU Business Forum held in London from August 8-9.

 

NEWS: ACP backs Pacific coconut farm project, awaits EU funding

Suva, FIJI, 12 August 2012/ FS: A Pacific Coconut Development Project is moving closer to becoming a reality following a successful meeting in Brussels between Fiji’s Ambassador to the European Union, Peceli Vocea, with other African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP Group) Representatives, the European Commission, the ACP Secretariat and the European Union Delegation from Suva.

NEWS: ACP joins EU farmers in appeal to maintain sugar production quotas

Wageningen, 6 August 2012/ CTA: In a statement at the joint ACP–EU Council meeting in Vanuatu on 14 June 2012, the Mauritian ambassador to the EU expressed the ACP group’s dismay at EC proposals to dismantle sugar production quotas in 2015, arguing that this would deprive the EC of ‘essential market management tools’, and would result in instability in EU sugar markets.

NEWS: 'Pivotal meeting' reviews Caribbean EPA progress

Greater Georgetown, GUYANA, 2 August 2012/ CARICOM/ ACP:  The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat is convening a meeting of national coordinators and heads of national implementation units of the15 Caribbean Forum of African, Caribbean and Pacific (CARIFORUM) States under the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the European Union.

 

Cameroon takes over helm for ACP Committee of Ambassadors

Brussels, 1 August 2012/ ACP: The Ambassador of Cameroon to Brussels, H.E Mr. Daniel Evina Abe’e officially began his six-month term today as Chairman of one of the main decision-making bodies of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States, the ACP Committee of Ambassadors.

NEWS: Uganda illegal timber trade tracked under ACP-FLEGT programme

Kampala, UGANDA, 1 August 2012/ UO: First, it was in the jungles of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Starting from the late 1990s, many Uganda dealers have raided the rich forests of that volatile eastern part of that country and cut down trees in a smuggling campaign that has helped Uganda’s overheated property market on its feet.
 

NEWS: Small Caribbean manufacturers more worried about EPA after Europe tour

Kingston JAMAICA, 1 August 2012/ JM: Trade agreements with the European Union may have little to offer small operators in the medium term, according to some local manufacturers, citing small-scale production in many Jamaican plants, which affects pricing and the ability to compete.

"We are not yet ready for the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA). Due to economies of scale, we will not be able to compete," said Sonya Dunstan, CEO of Taste of Caribbean Limited, in the wake of a tour of European firms in June.

 

SECRETARY GENERAL'S SPECIAL TRIBUTE to the late President of Ghana H.E Professor John Atta Mills

John Atta Mills ACPBrussels, 30 July 2012: It was with much grief that we learned of the passing of H. E. Professor John Atta Mills, President of the Republic of Ghana. At the time of his death on Tuesday 24th July, the late President was the Chairman of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States by virtue of Ghana having hosted the Sixth Summit of ACP Heads of State and Government in October 2008.
